Two persons sustained injuries in a road accident on Friday morning when a Mahindra Thar collided with a Central Reserve Police Force SSB bus at Baghat Chowk in Srinagar. Authorities reported the incident occurred around 10 AM, drawing immediate attention from emergency services.
The Thar was reportedly travelling at a high speed when it struck the bus, which was stationary at the traffic signal. According to an eyewitness, the force of the collision caused a significant jolt, alarming pedestrians and drivers in the vicinity.
An official statement confirmed that the two individuals injured were passengers in the Thar. They received prompt medical assistance at a nearby health centre, where their condition was stabilized.
The police have registered a case and are actively investigating the cause of the accident. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the area to gather further insights into the sequence of events leading to this collision.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in urban areas where traffic management remains a critical issue. In recent years, Srinagar has witnessed an increase in traffic accidents, often attributed to speeding and reckless driving.
Srinagar’s spokesperson noted, “We urge drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents in the future. Safety must remain a priority on our roads.”
Central officials have promised enhanced measures to monitor traffic and enforce rules, aiming to mitigate the rising accident rate. The local community expressed their concerns, emphasizing the need for improved road infrastructure and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
As the investigation continues, local residents hope this incident serves as a wake-up call to both drivers and authorities regarding the need for increased road safety vigilance and responsibility.
