Jammu, 26th September 2025 — Today, the National Commission for Women (NCW) organized a significant Mahila Jan Sunwai in Jammu to facilitate immediate resolution of women’s grievances. This program, designed to foster direct engagement between various stakeholders, gathered substantial participation from affected individuals seeking redress.
The Mahila Jan Sunwai resulted in the successful resolution of numerous complaints on-site, reaffirming the Commission’s dedication to providing justice and support to women. By enabling direct interaction between complainants and officials, the program enhanced the responsiveness of the legal and administrative systems to women’s issues.
During the event, Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, Hon’ble Chairperson of the NCW, praised the collaboration of the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their robust support and quick response in facilitating the initiative. Her remarks underscored the critical role law enforcement agencies play in ensuring women’s safety and the effectiveness of immediate action on grievances.
Jammu’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Sh. Shiv Kumar, articulated appreciation for the Commission’s choice to host this pivotal outreach in Jammu. He emphasized the importance of building trust between law enforcement and the community as part of broader efforts to enhance women’s safety.
The Mahila Jan Sunwai marks a pivotal step in strengthening institutional responsiveness towards women’s issues, laying down a framework for ongoing dialogues and interactions between citizens and law enforcement agencies. In conjunction with the grievance redressal program, a review meeting was conducted with senior police and district administrative officers. This forum aimed to formulate guidelines and enhance existing strategies for women’s safety and security.
As part of the intervention’s outreach, the program featured a presentation by the DIG Jammu and the District Administration. This presentation spotlighted safety measures and available facilities for women, along with crucial statistics aimed at preventing and detecting crimes against women. Such data underscores the ongoing challenges faced by women in society and the importance of proactive governance.
Keeping in line with NCW’s mission, further seminars and programs focusing on women’s safety will be organized, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement in the handling of women’s grievances.
The proceedings of the Mahila Jan Sunwai were overseen by prominent officials including Sh. Rakesh Minhas, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Jammu; Sh. Joginder Singh, SSP Jammu; and Sh. Sandip Bhat, Additional SP Udhampur. These leaders, along with various Zonal Superintendents and Investigating Officers, actively engaged in addressing listed complaints and ensuring the welfare of women in Jammu.
