Doda, Nov 2: The Government Medical College (GMC) Doda has achieved a significant milestone by successfully performing its first-ever thrombolysis procedure for a stroke patient. The event marks a turning point in emergency healthcare services in the Chenab region.
The procedure, which is crucial for treating acute strokes, took place under the watchful eyes of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Head of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Amir Hussain Parray. This marks the first time such an advanced treatment has been administered locally.
The stroke patient, identified as Roshan Lal from village Dolli in Gundna tehsil, exhibited classic stroke symptoms and was quickly rushed to GMC Doda. An efficient response from the Medicine Department, led by Dr. Govinder Kumar (MD Medicine) and supported by Dr. Divyanshu and Dr. Momin, ensured immediate evaluation and treatment. The team benefitted from the technical and logistical expertise of Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and dedicated nursing staff.
Since receiving the thrombolytic therapy, doctors confirm Lal’s positive response, indicating a steady recovery. Previously, patients experiencing acute strokes in Doda had to be referred to GMC Jammu or other major centers, which often resulted in losing critical time during transfer. The success of this procedure now means patients can access world-class stroke management without leaving the district.
In a congratulatory statement, Dr. Bahl emphasized the achievement, stating, “This is a landmark achievement for GMC Doda and a reassurance for thousands of people in remote areas who can now access advanced treatment without delay.”
Dr. Parray shared similar sentiments, marking this moment as more than just a medical advancement. He asserted, “This success reflects our team’s growing capabilities and commitment to emergency medicine. It’s not just a medical achievement — it’s a ray of hope for the entire Chenab region.”
The local community has widely praised the event, recognizing it as a significant stride toward enhancing healthcare infrastructure. The availability of thrombolysis treatment means that patients can now benefit from timely medical intervention within the critical golden hour of stroke onset, potentially saving lives.
As GMC Doda continues to elevate its healthcare services, the success of this thrombolysis procedure sets a precedent. It highlights the importance of investing in medical technology and expertise to improve the accessibility of emergency healthcare in rural areas.
