Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet members inspected various Chhath ghats on Wednesday, ensuring comprehensive preparations ahead of the Chhath Puja festival from October 25 to 28. The inspections occurred at Prembadi, Silangpur, and Munak Canal, where Gupta expressed confidence in the festive arrangements.
Gupta noted that this year’s Chhath Puja promises to be both ‘divine and devotional’ following a grand Diwali celebration. She stated that over 1,000 Chhath ghats will be developed, with special attention given to 17 model ghats along the Yamuna River. “At least one model ghat is being developed in each sub-district,” she assured attendees.
The government plans to host cultural programmes across around 200 ghats. Gupta said the arrangements would enhance the overall experience for devotees, who can expect facilities like tents, electricity, drinking water, sanitation, and toilets to support the rituals.
“This will mark the first time the Delhi government engages in such expansive religious and cultural initiatives,” Gupta added, drawing parallels to the recent Deepotsav celebrations during Diwali. She emphasized that Chhath festival would also be an event filled with grandeur and devotion.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared insights about unprecedented permissions granted for celebrations along the Yamuna banks. “What could not be done in the last 25 years has been achieved within six months of our government,” he said, highlighting the government’s commitment towards the Chhath festival.
Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra visited the Sonia Vihar Ghat alongside MP Manoj Tiwari and emphasized the renewed opportunity for Chhath Puja celebrations. “The BJP government has fulfilled its promise by allowing Chhath Puja on the Yamuna banks — a practice banned by the previous government,” Mishra stated, noting the inclusion of around 1,300 other ghats as well.
Meanwhile, MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri inspected ghats in Deoli and Sangam Vihar. There, he initiated a cleanliness drive supported by several Chhath Puja Committees, stating, “Chhath is a symbol of cultural unity and faith.” He added that the government has withdrawn cases against communities celebrating the festival, thus enhancing accessibility for devotees.
This initiative saw participation from MLA Chandan Chaudhary, South District BJP President Maya Bisht, Councillor Satpal Anita Singhal, and numerous party workers, collectively contributing to the cleanliness efforts.
In Bawana constituency, Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh conducted inspections at various ghats. He instructed officials to finalize all preparations by Friday morning and proposed that Rohini’s Lake Park be developed as Delhi’s “Model Chhath Ghat.”
The upcoming Chhath Puja — a significant four-day festival honoring the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya — anticipates thousands of devotees to partake in rituals across the national capital. As preparations unfold, the government’s commitment to enriching the experience stands at the forefront.
