“As the Commanding Officer, Group Captain Ranjit Singh Sidhu exhibited exceptional acts of gallantry, resolute leadership and unwavering dedication to duty in a high-stakes combat environment, disregarding personal safety,” states the official citation. His ability to make “dynamic, real-time decisions” underscored his tactical brilliance.

Under his command, the IAF enhanced its offensive posture, giving India a decisive edge during the operations.
In total, nine IAF pilots received the Vir Chakra for their roles in precision strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled territories during Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
