The Bihar Assembly elections will take place in two phases on November 6 and November 11, as confirmed by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during a press conference on Monday. Counting of the votes will occur on November 14, with the entire election process concluding by November 16. Kumar labeled these upcoming elections the “mother of all elections”, highlighting their significance for the state’s democratic process.
In the first phase, a total of 121 Assembly constituencies will vote on November 6, while 122 constituencies will participate in the second phase on November 11. Kumar assured the public of transparency and the seamless execution of electoral procedures across all constituencies.
“It is mandatory to complete counting of postal ballots before the last two rounds of counting of votes,” stated Kumar, emphasizing the importance of timely and accurate results.
The Election Commission has set specific timelines for nominations and withdrawals. For the first phase, candidates must file their nominations by October 17, with scrutiny occurring on October 18. The last day for candidates to withdraw their nominations is October 20.
For the second phase, candidates must submit their nominations by October 20, with scrutiny taking place on October 21. The final date for withdrawal of candidature is October 23.
The current term of the Bihar Legislative Assembly expires on November 22, requiring timely elections to ensure stability in governance.
Bihar comprises a total of 243 Assembly constituencies, which includes two reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 38 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC). The upcoming elections carry immense weight, not only due to the number of voters involved but also because of the potential impact on governance and policymaking in the state.
