The Indian Air Force (IAF) has achieved a significant operational success during its recently conducted Operation Sindoor. IAF Chief, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, announced on Friday that the forces destroyed 4 to 5 Pakistani fighter jets, most likely F-16s, during precision strikes on enemy airbases.
While addressing the media in New Delhi, Singh detailed the success of the operation, highlighting that the IAF targeted and inflicted heavy damage on multiple installations across Pakistan. The strikes primarily focused on radars, command centres, runways, hangars, and a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system.
“We struck a large number of their airfields and installations…radars at four places, command centres at two locations, two runways, and three hangars were destroyed. We have evidence of one C-130 aircraft being hit, and at least 4–5 fighters, most likely F-16s, which were under maintenance at that time,” the Air Chief Marshal stated.
Singh emphasized that the IAF utilized its newly procured long-range SAMs, which effectively restricted the Pakistan Air Force’s movements even within its own airspace. The operation also set a record by achieving the longest successful missile strike spanning over 300 kilometres, significantly hampering Pakistan’s aerial response capabilities.
Describing the operation as a decisive and time-bound success, Singh said, “This was a war started with a clear objective and concluded swiftly once our goals were achieved. Unlike prolonged global conflicts, India demonstrated that clarity and precision can force an adversary to ask for a ceasefire.”
The Air Chief Marshal further elaborated that the success of Operation Sindoor could serve as a lesson for the world, especially in light of numerous international conflicts that currently show no signs of resolution. His comments highlight how strategic military operations can influence geopolitical dynamics.
This successful operation reflects the IAF’s evolving capabilities and readiness to respond effectively to any threats posed by neighbouring countries. As tensions continue in the region, the IAF’s actions underline India’s commitment to national security and its tactical proficiency in countering provocations.
