Mohammed Siraj celebrates a wicket during the Test match

In an electrifying performance on Thursday, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah dismantled the West Indies batting lineup, bundling them out for a mere 162 runs on the first day of the Test match in Ahmedabad. Siraj, who took 4 wickets for just 40 runs, spearheaded India’s aggressive bowling attack.

Starting the day with unmatched zeal, Siraj claimed three wickets in a fiery morning spell. He returned after lunch to clinch one more wicket, leaving the Windies reeling. Bumrah, with his trademark yorkers and relentless accuracy, complemented Siraj successfully, grabbing 3 wickets for 32 runs.

Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar also contributed to the bowling tally, securing 2/25 and 1/9 respectively. The Windies managed to offer only a brief resistance with Justin Greaves scoring 32 runs, Shai Hope contributing 26 runs, and skipper Roston Chase adding 24 runs.

In response, India finished Day 1 strong at 121 for 2, trailing the Windies by just 41 runs. KL Rahul emerged as the standout performer, crafting a steady inning of 53 not out off 114 deliveries. His innings included clever shot selection and strategic pacing, showcasing his experience and resolve.

Rahul’s performance came amid a shaky start for India, as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brisk 36 runs before getting caught off Jayden Seales. Debutant B Sai Sudharsan could only manage 7 runs before falling victim to Chase’s bowling.

Captain Shubman Gill played a supporting role, remaining unbeaten on 18 runs. Together, they navigated India’s innings intelligently, especially after a brief rain interruption which could have disrupted their momentum.

As India eyes control of this two-Test series right from the outset, yesterday’s performance sets a promising tone. The pace attack of Siraj and Bumrah has fortified India’s position, while Rahul’s batting adds imperative stability.

With the team exhibiting strong synergy, cricket enthusiasts are eager to see how Day 2 unfolds, looking to witness if India can seize the momentum and potentially take an early lead in this crucial series.
