Police operation seizing illegal drugs in Shopian and Budgam

In a major operation on Monday, Jammu and Kashmir police arrested two suspected drug peddlers and recovered over one kilogram of charas from the Shopian and Budgam districts. The swift action shows the police’s commitment to combat drug trafficking in the region.

The first operation occurred in Shopian, where the police acted on specific intelligence about drug activities. Police Station Zainapora registered a case under the NDPS Act and obtained a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Shopian.

A team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) conducted a raid at the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh in Humhuna Nagbal. During the search, officers confiscated one kilogram of a charas-like substance along with a grinder machine believed to be used for processing the contraband.

“The accused is currently absconding, and police are actively conducting efforts to apprehend him,” stated a police official.

Additionally, a separate operation led to the interception of Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh by the Police Post Wachi. While passin through a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi, police discovered that Sheikh possessed 101 grams of charas-like substance. This incident prompted the registration of another FIR under the NDPS Act.

Meanwhile, in Budgam district, police apprehended a third suspect for drug-related activities during a routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora. The suspect, identified as Moomin Qadir Dhobi, was found with 112 grams of charas-like substance, leading to the registration of an FIR under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chadoora.

These consistent efforts by local law enforcement showcase the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir, a region that has been struggling with substance abuse issues in recent years. Authorities encourage community members to report any suspicious activity that may involve drug trafficking.

Police continue to stress the importance of public cooperation in eradicating the menace of drugs, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a drug-free society.
