Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reiterated the positive impact of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, which has been instrumental in bolstering the Indian economy over the past 11 years. Launched on this day in 2014, the initiative aims to enhance self-reliance and foster innovation across various sectors.

“It is gladdening to see how 11 Years Of Make In India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta,” PM Modi stated in a post on X. He emphasized that the program has fueled innovation and job creation nationwide.

Modi attributed a significant portion of India’s economic momentum to the entrepreneurial spirit ignited by the initiative. He elaborated, “Make in India has given an impetus to India’s entrepreneurs, thus creating a global impact.” This remark underscores the initiative’s focus on empowering local businesses to thrive on an international scale.

During his address, the Prime Minister advocated for a substantial increase in indigenous production. He reassured stakeholders that the government stands ready to support them, advocating a strong focus on transforming India into a ‘Swadeshi’ economy.

PM Modi spoke at the inauguration of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025, where he highlighted the government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment. “The government is putting a strong emphasis on Make in India manufacturing. We want everything from chip to ship to be manufactured in India,” he stated.

He further revealed that the government has charted a course to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles, stating, “We have abolished more than 40,000 compliances, and more than a thousand laws were decriminalized.” This reduction aims to encourage commerce and help businesses operate more smoothly in various sectors.

As the ‘Make in India’ initiative celebrates its 11th anniversary, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal lauded the significant advances in local defence production. Goyal posted on X, “The world is a witness to India’s defence manufacturing strength today! Guided by the vision of PM Narendra Modi, the nation has scripted landmark achievements in indigenous defence production.”

Highlighting a recent milestone, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the successful launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system, designed to cover a range of up to 2,000 kilometers. Singh congratulated all agencies involved in this significant achievement, reinforcing the effectiveness of the Make in India initiative in advancing national security.

The overall celebration of 11 years of the Make in India initiative showcases the government’s resolve to harness domestic capabilities and foster economic growth.
