Doda Police arrest motorcycle thieves

Doda, November 08, 2025: In a swift operation, Doda Police cracked a motorcycle theft case within 48 hours of its registration. Two individuals, identified as Mohd Tariq @ Baffer and Munish Kumar, now face charges in the case.

On November 5, 2025, Police Station Assar received a complaint from Omair Ullah Wani regarding the theft of his motorcycle tracing its last position to the Jathi area. Following this complaint, the police registered an FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

SSP Doda Shri Sandeep Mehta directed the formation of a special team led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh to investigate the matter. Under the supervision of DySP DAR Doda and the SHO of Police Station Assar, the team initiated immediate investigations.

By the early hours of November 6, investigators detained two suspects based on actionable intelligence gathered during the investigation. Both confessed to stealing the motorcycle on the night of October 26, which police subsequently recovered from their possession.

Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, a habitual offender and absconder, has a lengthy criminal history. He faces multiple charges across various states and districts, including theft, drug-related crimes, and burglary. His record includes numerous FIRs, demonstrating a persistent pattern of criminal behavior.

Munish Kumar, while newer to charges, was also implicated in the theft. The two suspects have been remanded to police custody as the investigation continues.

Authorities disclosed that Mohd Tariq’s previous charges stem from incidents in various locations like Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, and even Shimla (HP). The Hon’ble Court had previously issued a general warrant for his arrest, making his apprehension a significant victory for law enforcement.

The prompt action of the Doda Police reflects their commitment to public safety. The rapid investigation underscores an increasing focus on curbing crime, particularly theft-related incidents, in the region.
